Deadly Premonition and Twin Peaks comparison

PP writes: The similarities between the Twin Peaks and Deadly Premonition have been much discussed, particularly during the game's early development. As a huge fan of both the TV show and game respectively, I felt it was time for me to do a detailed analysis of the Twin Peaks quirks that might have made it into Deadly Premonition's final form. What is clear though is that - although both Twin Peaks and Greenvale share some ideas in common - what the creators did with these similar settings prove to be very different overall and of equal and commendable merit.

JB writes: Deadly Premonition. A game that apparently divided reviewers when it first appeared. The cover of the copy I have says 10/10. I knew, however, when Steph handed me her copy to borrow, that I was heading for a nightmare of controlling hell. I think it helped to know it would be torture, because it did stop me rage quitting at the beginning.
Apparently, it was panned when it came out. It promptly went on to acquire a cult following (as these things do), and now nobody can decide whether it is brilliant or terrible, or both. I think it might actually be both. There are moments, playing this game, where I think, this is genius. Or I fall over laughing. And other times I want to kill everybody involved in making this game. In the face.

Nerd Junkies writes:
My research led me to the realization that Deadly Premonition is touted as the most divisive game of all time. The widest range of reviews, from terrible to near-perfect, came into play for this game. A lot of people didnt like the strangeness of the characters (its sometimes like Monty Python meeting Stephen King for a dinner party), and I was definitely caught on the fact that the Special Agent you play seems to talk to his imaginary friend all the time. Others complain that the music isnt appropriate during pivotal scenes of emotional distress. What I can tell you is this, if it bothers you, if it puts you on edge Then a psychological horror game is doing its job. And Deadly Premonition does its job.
